Snow, snow, snow...

It is snowing! We have at least 12 inches of snow now and it is still coming down. I did venture outside to get a few shots of this, though I did not stay out long. There a bit of an internal struggle, the photographer in me wants to go out and take photographs the other side of me that is more practical is screaming it is only 19 degrees out there! Well, like usual, the want to go and photograph wins. Here are a couple of shots I have taken, there will be more once I get my car out of the drive way.

Pretty Pictures

I was going though my portfolio and work to update my website. I realized that I have images that are loosely categorized under the 'Pretty Pictures' category. They are good photographs, but they do not belong in a portfolio. Most of these photographs are the ones that I would print out to hang on the wall because I enjoy them. It is fun sometimes to take a photograph for the sake of capturing light, capturing color, or just hearing the sound of the shutter click. Here are a few of them.

Arlington National Cemetary

Today and yesterday my boyfriend and I, as his Christmas present to me, went running around DC after the big snow storm to take photographs. (That is one of the major benefits of having a significant other in the same field as you). We ended up only going to a few places yesterday because of limited access to DC and parking. One of the places we missed was Arlington cemetery because its roads and parking lots were not plowed. So, I went today. It was the first time I had been in the cemetery in a long time. If you are ever in DC it is a must visit. Very few people were out there today, so the cemetery was extremely quiet. This is the only time I can remember being there and feeling alone.

Friday Night Lights

I have been covering high school football for a little over a year now. Every once in a while you end up with a game that is a great game, both teams play their hearts out, and you end up with some great shots. The game on Monday night was one of those nights (The game was going to be on Friday, but because of the extreme amount of rain in the Richmond Metro area in the days leading up to the game it was pushed back till Monday). Here are some of the shots from that game.

New Business Card

I have been working for a few days on new ideas for business cards, letter head, etc. Once I figure out exactly what I want, I am going to change my website and this blog to reflect the change. Right now I have mostly black backgrounds but it is time to get away from that and use something that is more reflective of me and my style now.
Here are a few of the ideas that I am playing around with. I am leaning toward the coffee stain right now. I like the look and the warm colors and the simple graphic design. I hope when someone gets the card they will stop and look at it a little more closely because of its originality and humor. I also hope that when someone looks at it they see someone who is a hard worker...who obviously drinks coffee. I have to go back and clean up the one I chose so remember that these are rough ideas- mock ups if you will. The phone number will be on them too, I do not particularly want my personal cell number posted all over the Internet. The background images used on the business cardes have come from other web sites. I will use my own work for the photographic element in the final design. These are only mock ups.
